About: This new film follows the lives of many Latinos in North Carolina, providing an in-depth portrait of the people who harvest our food today. It combines interviews with North Carolina farmworkers, health care providers, faith leaders and educators with documentary photos collected by young people who were part of Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF). It also includes clips from the original Harvest of Shame documentary, the last televised documentary by North Carolina-born journalist Edward R. Murrow. That 1960 film delved into the myriad of social, health and labor issues faced by Americans working and traveling the eastern migrant stream. Rosalva Soto, Program Coordinator of SAF will moderate a panel consisting of A. Leanne Simon, SAF intern alum and NCCU student; Katie Cox, SAF health fellow alum and Program Assistant/Outreach Coordinator for the Wake County Farmworker Health Program; and Donna Campbell of Minnow Media, the film's producer. This event is cosponsored by Student Action with Farmworkers and Farmworker Advocacy Network.
The film screening and discussion take place on Saturday, February 4, at 3 p.m., at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St. For more information about the program, contact Joanne Abel at 560-0268.
