New "City Hall This Week" Begins Tomorrow

New Episode Begins Airing Friday, February 10 on DTV8 and

"On Demand" on Monday, February 13 on the DTV8 Website

 

DURHAM, N.C. - The following highlights from the February 6, 2012 Durham
City Council meetings and other topics of interest will be featured in
this episode of "City Hall This Week." The new show begins airing on
Friday, February 10 at 8 p.m. and will also be available to watch on
demand on Monday, February 13 at 
www.DurhamNC.gov/DTV8/CityHallThisWeek.cfm. 

 

Mayor Bill Bell Unveils Goals for 2012 During Annual State of the City
Address

Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell announced his four areas of focus for the
City for 2012 during his annual State of the City address. His four
goals center on reducing violent crime, continued neighborhood
revitalization, affordable housing, and sustainable job development and
creation. Mayor Bell explains more about how he hopes the City can
achieve those goals in this episode of "City Hall This Week."

 

City Council Receives Public Input on Annual Action Plan

The City is developing its plan for how federal funds will be spent to
address housing and community development needs in Durham during the
next fiscal year. The first of two public hearings on the Annual Action
Plan for 2012-2013 was held during the City Council's February 6
meeting. During the public hearing, representatives from organizations
providing affordable housing, public services, and assistance to those
who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless made their case for
funding. Community Development Department Federal Programs Coordinator
Wilmur Conyers explains why more organizations will be competing for
fewer dollars this year in this episode of "City Hall This Week."

 

Three Major Projects to Impact Travel on West Main Street During the
Coming Year

Motorists who travel along West Main Street between Ninth Street and
Buchanan Boulevard are in for some big changes in the coming year.
Starting in mid-February, a significant waterline replacement project,
along with two other major projects, will begin impacting travel through
the area to varying degrees. The other two projects include the
replacement of the West Main Street bridge over Campus Drive and the
resurfacing of West Main Street from Ninth to Peabody streets.
Transportation Department Director Mark Ahrendsen explains how these
projects are expected to affect traffic in this episode of "City Hall
This Week."

"City Hall This Week" is a news program dedicated to informing Durham
residents about what is going on inside Durham's City Hall. Each edition
is taped on the first and third Tuesday of the month - the day after
City Council meetings. It airs three times a day on DTV8 (Time Warner
Cable channel 8) through the week of the next City Council meeting.
