Fast Facts:

* The N.C. Highway 54 and Interstate Highway 40 corridor serves
as one of the major gateways between Chapel Hill and southwest Durham,
with the interchange at I-40 consistently ranking as one of the top
congested locations in the region.

* Development pressures within the corridor coupled with
mobility and capacity issues have highlighted that the existing and
planned transportation infrastructure is insufficient to accommodate
growth as well as address land use and transportation problems.

* To develop land use and transportation strategies to preserve
this important corridor, the DCHC MPO, City of Durham, Durham County,
and Town of Chapel Hill conducted a corridor study to analyze land use
and transportation strategies for accommodating current and future
needs.

* The initial draft report, completed in August 2010, went
through a four-month public review process. The study team developed a
Phase II Action Plan to address concerns heard in the initial public
review. The initial roadway analysis identified in the Phase II Action
Plan concluded in February 2011. Phase II final recommendations were
completed and made available to the public in January 2012.

* The final draft report is available for review on the project
website at www.NC54-I40CorridorStudy.com
<http://www.nc54-i40corridorstudy.com/> .

* Residents are invited to address the Transportation Advisory
Council (TAC) on the final draft of the study at this public hearing.
Each participant will be given a three-minute time limit to provide
their feedback.

* For more information about this study, visit
www.NC54-I40CorridorStudy.com or contact Leta Huntsinger with the DCHC
MPO at (919) 560-4366 ext. 36423 or via email at
