[Durham INC] Partisan Political Posts on the INC Listserv

I think list serv messages should be about anything people want to discuss, but INC should not take a partisan stance about anything, but should only take positions on things that effect neighborhoods.

That said, I think it was appropriate for INC to take a position supporting same sex couples because it was an issue that effects many of my neighbors. And because a majority if neighborhoods agreed.

I also could see supporting political candidates that took strong neighborhood stances if a majority of neighborhoods agreed.

That's my two cents anyway. --

In addition, our articles of incorporation say the following: "this corporation shall not participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distribution of statements), any political campaign on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for public office."

But please bear in mind that we need a very simple principle that the moderators of the listserv can enforce equitably, and that everyone can understand. One such principal would be to ask people not to put messages about partisan events on the listserv, and not to advocate for or against candidates.
