and Chatham Counties

Fast Facts:

*         The DCHC MPO, which programs state and federal transportation
projects for Durham County and parts of Orange and Chatham counties, is
requesting public feedback on the transportation goals and future growth
in the region that include housing, population and employment
information.

 

*         Residents are encouraged to provide feedback and complete a
short online survey concerning their transportation values and goals at 
www.surveymonkey.com/s/DCHCMPOSurvey1 by May 31, 2012. The comment
period and public hearing provides an opportunity for residents to offer
input to elected officials on these future transportation goals,
objectives, and targets.  

 

*         Public workshops have been conducted in Carrboro and
Hillsborough and additional meetings are scheduled in Chatham County and
Durham. Residents are encouraged to attend the drop-in sessions anytime
during the three-hour period. 

o   Tuesday, April 24, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Agricultural
Building Auditorium, 45 South St., Pittsboro.

	*	Thursday, April 26, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 7pm on the
second floor of Durham Station Transportation Center, 515 W. Pettigrew
St., Durham

 

*         A public hearing will be held by the DCHC MPO Transportation
Advisory Committee, which is primarily comprised of local elected
officials. The hearing is slated for Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 9 a.m.
in the second floor Committee Room of Durham City Hall, 101 City Hall
Plaza. Persons with disabilities will be accommodated, but please
request provisions at least 48 hours in advance.

 

*         The plan, reports, and comment form are available at the DCHC
MPO website at www.dchcmpo.org. The available documents online include
draft goals and objectives for the overall transportation system,
including the multi-modal street and highway system, public
transportation system, pedestrian and bicycle system, integration of
land use and transportation, protection of natural environment and
social systems, public involvement, and transportation safety and
security. 

 

*         As part of the same process for creating the goals and
objectives, the DCHC MPO develops a set of performance targets to
provide a set of broadly based quantitative measures that evaluate the
transportation plan from several different perspectives.
