About: Durham County Library and the North Carolina Folklife Institute will host the opening of the photo exhibit, North Carolina at Work: Cedric Chatterley's Portraits and Landscapes of Traditional Labor. Drawn from two decades of photographer Cedric Chatterley's work with the Institute and the North Carolina Arts Council, this exhibit contains photographs connecting images of North Carolinians at work with the landscapes that surround them. Apple pickers in McDowell County and oyster harvesters in Onslow County will be featured as well as preachers, rodeo riders, cooks, tobacco farmers, barbers and potters. The program will be held at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St., on Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m.

The goal of the exhibit is to evoke the strong sense of place many North Carolinians feel and also to foster conversations about the relationship between work and place in the current economy. Curator Liz Lindsey worked with a continuing education class at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, called "Mount a Real Documentary Photography Exhibit" to create this display. The class helped to select final photos, wrote the exhibit text and even assisted with installation.

The program and reception will be held in the auditorium. The photo exhibit is on the second and third floors of the library and will run from April 29 through June 29. This event is co-sponsored by North Carolina Folklife Institute and the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.
