Cooperative Extension to Host Pesticide Collection Day
Durham, NC - Do you have pesticides at your home, farm or business that you no longer need or use? If so, consider dropping them off at the upcoming County Pesticide Collection Day hosted by Durham County Cooperative Extension on Thursday, May 17, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Durham County Memorial Stadium located at 750 Stadium Drive.

The Durham County Extension Office, will partner with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program, a non-regulatory and cost-free program, to host the Pesticide Collection Day to encourage residents in Durham County and all of the surrounding North Carolina counties to properly dispose of pesticides.

Nearly all pesticide products will be accepted at the event, including banned and outdated pesticides. Residents planning to drop off products should save any portion of labels on products to help identify the material brought for disposal. Unknown materials cannot be accepted. For pesticides with unreadable or missing labels, residents should contact the Durham County Cooperative Extension Office for instructions prior to collection day. Residents should also contact the Cooperative Extension Office if planning to drop off pressurized pesticide gas cylinders or containers greater than 5 gallons in size and for tips on transporting the pesticides safely to the event.

For more information about this event, contact Michelle Wallace, agricultural extension agent for the Durham County Cooperative Extension, at 919- 560-0526 or via email at mwallace at durhamcountync.gov.

About the Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program
The Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program (PDAP) is a consumer services program in the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The PDAP, part of the Structural Pest Control and Pesticides Division, is a NON-REGULATORY program that provides cost-free assistance to farmers and homeowners. The goal of the Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program is to assist the citizens of North Carolina by managing and supervising the safe collection and lawful disposal of banned, outdated, or unwanted pesticides. Each year the Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program visits between 40-50 counties to collect unwanted and unused pesticides through this NON-regulatory amnesty Program. For more information about the program, visit www.ncagr.com/PDAP.
