Durham Hosts Meetings about American Tobacco Trail and Bridge Project

Portion of American Tobacco Trail to Close for Approximately 13 Months

DURHAM, N.C. - Durham residents interested in how the upgrades and
construction on the American Tobacco Trail and Bridge from N.C. Highway
54 to the Chatham County line will alter their exercise, recreation, and
travel should plan to attend one of the three public information
meetings scheduled in May 2012.

The City of Durham Public Works Department is hosting public information
meetings to discuss the project timelines and answer questions that
residents may have about the project. Three community meetings are
scheduled as follows:

Monday, May 14, 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.

St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church

8306 N.C. Highway 751, Durham

Tuesday, May 15, 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Triangle Presbyterian Church Gymnasium

5001 Tudor Place, Durham

Thursday, May 17, 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Durham City Hall, Second Floor Committee Room

101 City Hall Plaza, Durham

The project, which will begin June 2012 and end July 2013, includes
paving a 10 foot-wide asphalt path on 2.8 miles of existing trail;
installing 1.4 miles of new trail, and installing a bicycle and
pedestrian bridge over Interstate 40. During this improvement project,
the trail will be closed from N.C. Highway 54 southward to the Chatham
County line. In addition, trail parking on Fayetteville Road near New
Hope Church will be closed for the duration of the project. These
closings are for public safety while the City contractors work on the
trail.
