Dear Commissioners:

The fact that we are even having to discuss this appointment at such length, speaks volumes.  The Board of County Commissioners should have appointed Fred Foster on last night - and closed the book of what seems to be a continuous cycle of broken continuity (in one fashion, or another).

The citizens of Durham have spoken and we've clearly stated the fact that we do not need an extensive, drawn-out application and/or selection process.

Fred Foster should be appointed now, and come November, Ellen Reckhow should be elected Chair of the Board and Fred Foster Vice Chair. I manage a successful company with nine employees and, as a young man, I've learned that the "right decision" is typically the easiest.  Any resistance, by anyone, to appointing Foster is personal and would not exude the spirit of leadership needed here in Durham.

I've heard that a certain group of folks are calling some of the Commissioners, attempting to lobby you to not appoint Fred.  This is absurd, vindictive and frankly, demonstrates the true need for the community to bombard the media/list servs/etc with letters of support for Fred.

It is time to bring a spirit of humility to this Board.  The sooner, the better.
