Durham County Library Hosts a Photography Program and Exhibit for Teens Produced by Students from the Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham
Program: Exploring Art with Students from the Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham
Date: Thursday, May 24
Time: 5:30 p.m.
Location: Main Library
300 N. Roxboro St.
Cost: Free and open to the public
About: Meg Daniels and Sarah Gibbons, of the Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham, will host Exploring Art at the Main Library, on Thursday, May 24 at 5:30 p.m. as they engage young adults to examine photographs taken by students of the Institute. Selected pictures will be used to spark conversation, explore creativity and celebrate young photographers. Teens, invited to pause and immerse themselves in this compilation of images, will discover how photographs can work as elusive and enigmatic identities.
Featured photographs were chosen from among more than 100 competitive submissions based upon their creativity and technical merit. Each image relates to an aspect of time and space, inviting viewers to spend time with each piece.
Professor Daniels has been a freelance photographer for 14 years and is a regular contributor to several stock agencies including Getty Images, Corbis and Tandem Stock. She has worked for numerous magazines including Time Magazine, Mothering Magazine and Organic Gardening, as well as international organizations like the American Dietetic Association and Scholastic, Inc. She is currently working on a proposal for a documentary project that will take her to South Africa in June.
Gibbons graduated with a MFA in photography from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2008. She has worked as a custom lab technician at the Maine Media Workshops and was head of printing at a New York retouching studio.
This program, followed by a reception, will be held in the Young Adult area on the first floor of the Main Library. It is co-sponsored by the Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham and Durham County Library. For more information contact Placedia Nance at 919-560-0122.
