City's YouTube Channel

DURHAM, N.C. - DTV8's "City Hall This Week" will debut a shorter, weekly
format beginning tonight at 8 p.m.

Hosted by Senior Public Affairs Specialist Amy Blalock, the show has
changed to a shorter, weekly format to better deliver City news in a
timelier and more frequent way. New shows will air every Friday at 8
p.m. on DTV8 (Time Warner Cable channel 8) plus be available to watch on
demand at http://www.YouTube.com/CityofDurhamNC.

The following highlights and other topics of interest will be featured
in Episode #138 of "City Hall This Week":

City Considers New Use for Former Duke Diet and Fitness Center Site

New life may soon be breathed back into the former Duke Diet and Fitness
Center property. The innovative way of helping meet the requirements of
the Falls Lake Rules calls for a wetland retrofit project to be built on
the site. Assistant Stormwater Manager Paul Wiebke explains why the
stormwater project seems like it would be a good use for the site as
well as a way of saving the City millions of dollars in this episode of
"City Hall This Week."

Portion of American Tobacco Trail in Durham Set to Close Beginning in
June

Construction of the final phase of the American Tobacco Trail in Durham
is set to begin in June, meaning that some residents will need to find
an alternate route over the coming months. Work will be focused on the
area between Highway 54 and the Chatham County line and will include the
construction of the new pedestrian bridge over I-40. Design Engineering
Supervisor Jeff Lecky explains how the project will affect travel on the
trail and the surrounding area in this episode of "City Hall This Week."

Waterline Improvement Project Affects Traffic Downtown

Motorists traveling through downtown Durham will be impacted by the
Morris Street Waterline Improvement Project over the next three months.
The replacement of the 80-year-old waterlines will affect traffic from
West Corporation Street to Chapel Hill Street. The project is being
completed in phases, with only portions of the street being closed or
reduced to one lane of traffic at a time. The project is expected to be
completed by the end of July.

Durham Extends Text-to-911 Trial Period

The Durham Emergency Communications Center has extended its
"Text-to-911" trial period for Verizon Wireless Customers. The
technology allows Durham residents and visitors who are also Verizon
Wireless customers to send a text message to 911 for emergency help.
Text-to-911 has been used in Durham as part of a trial program since
last August. That trial period has now been extended until the end of
July.
