Durham County Library, in partnership with the Triangle Jazz Society and Target, will present a series of interactive jazz workshops for young people at Stanford L. Warren Library, on Monday, July 2 and July 9, at 2 p.m. The workshops are geared towards school-aged children, 8 to 14 years old. Pre-registration is required.

Local jazz vocalist and Durham Arts Council CAPS artist Adia Ledbetter will facilitate each workshop accompanied by a jazz trio or quartet of professional musicians. Students will be guided through jazz history, with particular attention given to the contributions of well-known and lesser-known musicians, including influential North Carolina artists. Books about the genre will also be available for students to refer to, and the sessions will feature some of the most inspiring elements about jazz.

Each workshop will include discussions, speakers and multimedia presentations, followed by live demonstrations of the musical styles and genres featured, performed by local jazz musicians. Refreshments will be served.

This program is sponsored by the Triangle Jazz Society with funding from a Target Arts Grant. For more information, contact Heather Cunningham at 919-560-0270.

Durham County Library provides the entire community with books, services and other resources that inform, inspire learning, cultivate understanding and excite the imagination. For more information, visit your local library or visit us online at durhamcountylibrary.org.
