The following email appeared on my neighborhood listserv. It is worth reading and following.
A lot of dogs freak out when fireworks are set off. Please be considerate of your neighbors in this regard and give fair warning before using fireworks. Of course, organized fireworks shows are literally more bang for your buck. It's best if we all attend these rather than holding our own meagre and often dangerous shows in our back yards.

Sincerely,
Melissa (Rooney)

The 4th of July is here and fireworks are a traditional part of the celebration.  However, it's really dry and you can see far too many fires on the news.  In order to ensure personal and fire safety, the National Council on Firework Safety provides the following recommendations:

·         Always have water ready if you are shooting fireworks, especially during dry and hot conditions.
·         Soak spent fireworks with water before placing them in an outdoor garbage can.
·         Sparkler wire and stick remain hot long after the flame has gone out. Be sure to drop spent sparklers in a bucket of water.
·         Parents and caretakers should always closely supervise teens if they are using fireworks.
·         Parents should not allow young children to handle or use fireworks.
·         Fireworks should only be used outdoors.
·         Know your fireworks. Read the caution label before igniting.
·         Alcohol and fireworks do not mix.
·         Wear safety glasses whenever using fireworks.
·         Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.

Also, please note that fireworks cannot be detonated on association property.

We hope these safety tips assist you and your family during the upcoming July 4th holiday.

Thanks – Fairfield Board
