Keep Durham Beautiful Hosts Free Community Grant Program Session August
8

Residents Invited to Apply for Grant Funding by August 31 Deadline to
Improve Durham's Appearance

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 3, 2012 Durham, N.C. - Durham-based groups
looking to make a difference in Durham's appearance, but lacking the
necessary funds to get their project going, are encouraged to attend
Keep Durham Beautiful's free information session next week.

The session to learn more about its bi-annual grant program will be held
on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. in Durham City Hall in the
second floor Committee Room.

Keep Durham Beautiful, a nonprofit affiliate of Keep America Beautiful,
will award competitive grants of up to $500 each to Durham-based
volunteer groups, individuals or teachers looking to organize projects
that support its key objectives to reduce litter, increase recycling
and/or enhance beautification or community greening.

The deadline to submit applications for the fall funding cycle is August
31, 2012.

"This free session will give residents an opportunity to jumpstart
project ideas and learn how easy it is to apply," said Keep Durham
Beautiful Executive Director Tania Dautlick.

Wednesday's information session at City Hall will provide details on the
process to fund and organize projects for fall/winter 2012.

"Applicants who attend the information session historically prepare very
appropriate proposals that fit well with the mission of Keep Durham
Beautiful, engaging and inspiring individuals to take greater
responsibility for their community environment," said Dautlick. "I
encourage anyone considering a grant submission to attend this
informative session."

The Interfaith Food Shuttle, a recent grant recipient, will have
Community Garden Coordinator Elizabeth Newman on hand at the information
session to speak about the grant application process and about
collaborating to create a viable community garden.
