Durham Parks and Recreation Seeking Feedback on Master Plan Update
Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) is asking residents for their input as
it begins the process of updating its master plan. The plan is being
modified to reflect the city's changing population and the need for new
facilities and programming. Feedback can be given in several ways over
the coming months and DPR Director Rhonda Parker explains how.
Fourth Quarter Financial Report for 2011-2012 Shows City Ending Year on
Solid Note
The Fourth Quarter Financial Report for Fiscal Year 2011-2012 is out
showing that overall City departmental spending fell considerably under
budget. The departments spent $3.4 million less than budgeted, with that
amount more than covering the overage in personnel costs of $450,000.
The report shows that year-end collections of property taxes were up
$2.3 million compared to last year. Sales taxes were also up by $1.4
million compared to last year and down $1.7 million from what was
budgeted.
City Set to Begin New Phase of Residential Meter Replacement Project
The City's residential meter replacement project is entering another
phase. Phase Three of the project includes upgrading 21,000 manual-read
residential water meters to the new remote-read meters. The second phase
of the project was finished in June. Water Management Department Civil
Engineer Bryant Green explains how the City and residents are already
benefitting from the work done so far.
City Lays Groundwork to Meet Long-term Transportation Needs
The City and its regional partners are making long-term transportation
plans. A public hearing and public workshops have been held in Orange
and Durham counties to gather input on the alternative analysis for the
2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan. The alternatives have been
developed to include a comprehensive transportation network for the
entire region. Residents are being asked to provide feedback and offer
input on those alternatives until October 10. Transportation Department
Planner Andy Henry explains how that can be done.
