Durham Unemployment Report Released
A new report is offering a better picture of the characteristics of
Durham's unemployed population. The report is based on information from
the JobLink Workforce Investment Act job seeker database. The snapshot
provided by the data shows that there are slightly more women than men
who are unemployed, many have at least a high school diploma, and most
are African American. Office of Economic and Workforce Development
Director Kevin Dick offers a more in-depth look at the report.
Strategic Plan Annual Update Underway
The City's Strategic Plan - Durham's Got It! - is undergoing its annual
update, with some changes this year that reflect new areas of
partnership with the County. The plan serves as the basis for the City's
budget and is updated every year to make sure it reflects Durham's
priorities. Strategic Initiatives Manager Jay Reinstein offers a look at
some of the joint City-County initiatives that will be included in the
updated plan.
City Council Scheduled to Review Revised Food Truck Rules
The City Council is set to decide on November 5 whether it will revise
the rules governing food trucks, food carts, and other street vendors. A
draft proposal from the City-County Planning Department includes changes
for such vendors in street rights-of-way, how buffers with restaurants
are handled, and the permits that are required. The new rules will apply
citywide if they're adopted.
"What Durham Is Saying" Features City Utilities
Solid waste pickup, recycling, and protection of Durham's water supply
are among the most important City services. Find out what's being done
to make sure they are continually provided in the most efficient and
effective way.
