Durham Welcomes New SCORE Chapter

Service Corps of Retired Executives to Offer Free Services to
Entrepreneurs & Small Businesses

DURHAM, N.C. - Durham-based entrepreneurs and small business owners will
soon be able to receive free, confidential counseling and mentoring
sessions thanks to the start of a new partnership.

The City of Durham's Office of Economic and Workforce Development and
the Small Business Advisory Committee, in partnership with Service Corps
of Retired Executives (SCORE), are re-launching the Durham SCORE Chapter
on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

According to Kevin Dick, director of the City's Office of Economic and
Workforce Development, SCORE representatives will offer one-on-one
sessions, by appointment only, from experienced business mentors. "These
retired executives will be providing general business advice on every
aspect of business planning, start-up, management, and growth," Dick
said. "SCORE provides both in-person and online mentoring to
entrepreneurs just getting started or in need of a seasoned pro as a
sounding board for their existing businesses. Due to the entrepreneurial
'hub' that Durham is fast becoming, this is a great way to further help
these small business owners realize their dreams and make them a
reality."

SCORE's Durham Chapter also will provide business workshops and seminars
on topics customized to the needs of Durham's business community. The
Durham Chapter plans to advocate for an emphasis on business planning
and plans to offer an introduction to the fundamentals of a business
plan as one of their first workshops. For established businesses, SCORE
will offer in-depth training on topics such as customer service, hiring
practices, using the Internet for business, marketing, home-based
business operations, and other issues.

According to W. Kenneth Yancey, chief executive officer for SCORE,
Durham entrepreneurs and small business owners will benefit from
experienced professionals. "Since 1964, SCORE's seasoned business
experts have provided the highest level of business mentoring services
to help entrepreneurs create and grow their businesses. SCORE is the
leading source of ongoing small business mentoring, training workshops,
and online expert resources in the United States."

Appointments can now be made at http://www.score.org
<http://www.score.org> by entering a zip code and contact information.
SCORE will begin holding one-on-one sessions, by appointment only, on
Tuesdays starting on November 13.
