DurhamWalks! Pedestrian Plan Report Shows Progress Being Made

There's progress to report on Durham's efforts to become a more
pedestrian and bicycle-friendly city. A recent update on the
DurhamWalks! Pedestrian Plan shows that while funding for the sidewalk
projects included in the plan is still extremely limited, progress has
been made over the past year and will continue to be made over the next
five years. Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Dale McKeel offers a more
detailed look at the report and how the projects are prioritized.

Durham's Small Business Owners SCORE Big

Durham-based entrepreneurs and small business owners now have a new
resource at their disposal. The Service Corps of Retired Executives
(SCORE) has opened in Durham. The group is offering one-on-one sessions
with experienced business mentors. Durham SCORE will also provide
business workshops and seminars on topics specific to the needs of
Durham's business community. Appointments for one-on-one sessions can
now be made at http://www.score.org.

City Selected as Finalist for Bloomberg Philanthropies' Mayors Challenge

Durham's ability to generate innovative ideas that solve the City's
major challenges has earned it a spot to compete for a $5 million prize.
The City has been selected as a finalist for the Bloomberg
Philanthropies' Mayors Challenge. Durham was chosen based on its idea to
create entrepreneurship hubs in three distressed neighborhoods. The
project will now compete against 19 other cities across the country for
the grand prize.
