Year-End Paving Report Offers Encouraging Snapshot of City Streets

All of Durham's streets that were identified as poor or very poor in a
2007 pavement condition survey have now been repaired or repaved. A
year-end status report shows that, thanks to a $20 million bond approved
by voters in 2010, just over 387 lane miles of City streets have been
repaved over the past two years. More than 588 lane miles of City
streets have been repaved since 2006.

Design a Better Bus Service in Durham Plan Prepares for Second Phase

The effort to design a better bus service in Durham is well underway and
more changes are just around the corner. The first phase of changes
associated with the plan was implemented on September 29. Those changes
focused on improving the on-time performance of routes 1, 6, and 11. The
second phase of changes will be made on January 5. John Tallmadge,
director of commuter resources for Triangle Transit, explains what those
changes will include and what is being done to prepare customers.

Infrastructure Improvements in Store for Old North Durham Park

Infrastructure improvements are in the works for Old North Durham Park.
The City Council approved a $737,000 contract for the project. The
improvements will address stormwater and drainage problems within the
park, as well as include the renovation of the existing athletic and
multi-use field so it can be used during soccer festivals and
tournaments.

New Fire Station 9 Is One Step Closer to Becoming a Reality

A $2.3 million construction contract has been approved for the new Fire
Station 9. The new facility will be located at the intersection of
Midland Terrace Road and Camden Avenue. It will replace the current fire
station on East Club Boulevard. The new station will include separate
accommodations for eight firefighters per shift, a fitness room,
captain's offices, a dining room, and a kitchen.
