New "City Hall This Week" Begins February 8

Mayor Bell Says State of the City is "Good and Getting Better"; 

Free Tax Preparation for Qualifying Residents Now Available

 

DTV8's "City Hall This Week" will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m.
Hosted by Senior Public Affairs Specialist Amy Blalock, this show will
feature the following highlights and other topics of interest. You can

Mayor Bell Delivers State of the City Address

Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell delivered his 11th Annual State of the City
Address before the February 4 City Council meeting. He said that while
Durham made great strides last year, there are still five key areas that
the City will be focusing on in the coming year where improvement needs
to be made. Mayor Bell explains what those areas are and how he proposes
the City deal with these issues.

 

Free Tax Preparation Offered to Qualifying Durham Residents 

The City is joining with Reinvestment Partners and a number of other
local organizations to offer free tax assistance to Durham residents who
qualify. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is available
to residents making $51,000 or less. Reinvestment Partners Executive
Director Peter Skillern and others explain what this service means to
Durham families.

 

Small Local Business Enterprise Program Being Considered in Durham

Small businesses in Durham may soon have more of an advantage when it
comes to winning local government contracts. The City is considering
whether to implement a new Small Local Business Enterprise program.
Equal Opportunity and Equity Assurance Director Deborah Giles explains
what the program is and who it would benefit.

 

City Begins Process of Developing 2013-2014 Budget

The City Council is beginning the process of developing Durham's
2013-2014 budget. Five "Coffee with Council" sessions will be held
during February and March at various locations throughout the city. For
