Durham Offers Free Environmental Job Training

Applications Accepted Until March 11; Information Session Set for March
5

 

DURHAM, N.C. - Durham residents interested receiving certifications
needed for full-time employment in the environmental field should apply
now for the City of Durham's Environmental Workforce Development and Job
Training Program.  

 

The 12-week training program, provided by the City's Office of Economic
and Workforce Development through a grant from the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, will teach the skills needed to secure full-time
employment in the environmental field, including assessment and cleanup.
This free training will provide certifications that allow participants
to qualify as environmental technicians or for employment in the
recycling, wastewater treatment, or construction industries.
Certifications include wastewater treatment plant operator, hazardous
waste operations and emergency response (HAZWOPER) 40-hour training,
asbestos worker abatement, lead worker abatement, Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour training for general industry,
and first aid/CPR.  

 

Classes begin on Monday, April 8, 2013, and will meet from 12:30 p.m. -
4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Applications are now available on the
City's website at

and are due by Monday, March 11, 2013, by 5 p.m. 

 

Residents interested in speaking with City staff about this training
program are invited to an information session set for Tuesday, March 5,
2013, at 5 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Antioch Baptist Church,
located at 1415 Holloway St., Durham.  

 

There will be two more training programs offered in 2013 and
applications for these future programs are being accepted on a
