Durham Temporarily Changes Water Disinfection Method

DTV8's "City Hall This Week" will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m.
Hosted by Senior Public Affairs Specialist Amy Blalock, this show will
feature the following highlights and other topics of interest. You can

Annual Point-in-Time Count Offers Snapshot of Homelessness in Durham

The City's annual Point-in-Time count is offering a snapshot of the
number of homeless people in Durham. The one-night count conducted on
January 30 found a nine percent increase in the number of homeless
people staying in homeless shelters, transitional housing, or on the
streets than in 2012. The number of chronically homeless people
decreased to the lowest point since 2005. Members of the Homeless
Services Advisory Committee and Community Development Director Reginald
Johnson explain more about how the count was conducted and what the
numbers mean.

Second Quarter Financial Report Reflects Economic Challenges

The City's second quarter financial report is reflecting the overall
economic challenges facing Durham right now. All City departments are
expected to end the year within budget, thanks in large part that they
are on track to spend $2 million less than expected. Some of Durham's
other sources of revenue have also increased this year. Those factors
will help to offset a shortfall in the collection of property and sales
taxes.

City Makes Progress in Addressing Failed and Struggling Developments

The City is making progress on its efforts to address infrastructure
challenges for many of Durham's failed and struggling developments. A
recent update shows that there are 46 developments currently being
monitored because they have shown multiple signs of financial problems;
43 developments are classified as struggling; and 25 are classified as
failed. Just over 50 of the projects have been completed without
financial impact to residents.

Durham Temporarily Changes Water Disinfection Method

Throughout the month of March, the City is temporarily changing its
water disinfection method. During that time, ammonia will not be added
as part of the water treatment disinfection process. This must be done
to meet annual state and federal water requirements. The entire water
system will also be flushed to allow chlorine to disperse throughout the
system. For more information, visit
