Neighbors:

Take a moment to read the Charlotte Observer article and opinion pieces cued
up below at http://plancharlotte.org/. The link will get you to the
article and within it are links to the op-eds on the bill against
residential design controls.

The author of the opinion in favor of design controls is Durham resident,
Ben Hitchings. Ben is a professional planner in Morrisville and is the
president of the NC AICP organization.

Should we be having our say on this? I noted with interest the quotes in
the local paper from triangle area homebuilders who say that the bill is
none of their doing. That's great, but it would be better if they would
come out against the bill in their own organization and in Raleigh.

Hi Tom and John,

I invite you to read my op-ed, and one from a developer lobbyist, on H150 --
Design controls on the PlanCharlotte website <http://plancharlotte.org/>
http://plancharlotte.org/. The legislation may be more harmful than you
think.

Among other things, Dave Owens says municipal attorneys are particularly
concerned about the provision that would prevent local governments from
prohibiting conversions of single family homes into rooming houses, since
the bill prevents communities from regulating the number of kitchens.

Also below are several articles from a press conference held Monday by the
Wake Mayors Association opposing the bill.

Thanks,

Ben
