Project Information Meeting Set for Realignment of Fayetteville Street

and Buxton Drive/Riddle Road Intersection

Community Meeting to Review and Discuss Final Plans

DURHAM, N.C. - With the project expected to bid later this year, those
interested in the final design and construction plans for the
realignment of Fayetteville Street and the Buxton Drive/Riddle Road
intersection should mark their calendars now to get the latest
information on the project design and implementation.

On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at
Hillside High School, 3727 Fayetteville Street, the City of Durham's
Public Works Department is hosting a project information meeting to
answer questions as well as review the construction plans and schedule
for the realignment of Fayetteville Street and the Buxton Drive /Riddle
Road intersection.

Due to the existing design, the intersection of Fayetteville Street,
Buxton Drive and Riddle Road does not operate efficiently under current
traffic volumes and is anticipated to only get worse as traffic volumes
increase in the coming years. To address this issue, City's
Transportation and Public Works Departments have collaborated on a
traffic study and design plans, which propose to realign Riddle Road to
the north to create a traditional four-way intersection. Additional
through and turn lanes will also be added to Fayetteville Street, Buxton
Drive, and Riddle Road to accommodate increased traffic volumes.

The project will include roadway construction, sidewalks, and signal
upgrades at the proposed new intersection as well as at the crossing of
the American Tobacco Trail at Riddle Road. The project is expected to
bid in fall/winter 2013 with construction beginning in spring/summer
2014. The project design necessitates that the City acquire property and
easements from the adjoining property owners for construction of the new
intersection. The final design can be viewed on the City's website at
