Thanks Vicki,

I'm passing this to Duke Park, and to INC so others can share with their
neighborhoods.

Hi Bill,
We continued spot flushing over the weekend for the areas with specific
concerns. Samples collected and analyzed by Water Treatment Plant staff
have not indicated specific problems. On Friday we made some adjustments to
the treatment process to address the taste complaints which generally take a
couple of days to fully take effect. We are continuing to evaluate our
source water and will make further adjustments as necessary.
RE: flushing in general
When there is a complaint regarding discolored water or a taste/odor
complaint, in addition to collecting samples at the site, we usually request
that Water & Sewer Maintenance flush the area. There is not a specific time
frame to flush; the crew will turn the hydrant on at any point in the day
and then check back first thing the next morning. If chlorine levels are not
optimal, they may decide to leave if flowing for another day, and check
back periodically. As one might suspect, cul-de-sacs sometimes have “stale”
water because with low usage there’s not a lot of turnover.
The volume used to flush, while not insignificant, usually runs at a rate
of 340 gallons per minute. As a point of comparison, during a year’s time
we may flush 14.3 million gallons to clear the system; this is out of the
total of 9,947.7 million gallons treated (0.14%). We certainly understand
our customers concerns about wasting water, but flushing for water quality
is an industry standard and we do try to minimize the volume used.
I hope this addresses the concerns raised. Feel free to contact me with
any additional questions or concerns.
Regards,
Vicki

Thanks John. Believe me if it were off like mine and others, you’d know
it. It happened suddenly.
Thanks, I hope that they can pinpoint the problem

As perhaps an aid to pinpointing the location of the problem, my water
seems fine. The taste may be a little off, but I think that's b/c, after all
this discussion, I'm really attending to it.

I Might have to get a Brita but this seems like something the city should
address. I can’t really afford it right now.

My unfiltered water still nasty also.

Faucet-mounted Brita filter expensive but really does work wonders,
when/if one can afford! Sometimes good sales at Kroger, Harris Teeter, Costco...

Neighbors, is anyone else still having the dirt tasting water? They
collected my sample last Tues. I think and I know flushed out one hydrant but
not one near myhouse.

My water still tastes bad. Just wanted feedback before I email the water
management group.

Thanks,
