City Administration Unveils 2013-2014 Proposed Budget

The City Council is now considering City Manager Tom Bonfield's proposed
2013-2014 budget. The $381 million spending plan does not include a
property tax increase for next year and includes about $7.8 million more
than last year's budget. An E-Town Hall event and public hearing will be
held on the plan during the City Council's June 3 meeting. The final
budget is expected to be approved on June 17.

Southside Project Serves as Template for Complicated Redevelopment
Projects in N.C.

The Southside revitalization project is paving the way for similar
redevelopment efforts throughout the state. The City and the State
worked to come up with a cost-effective and safe alternative to
asbestos-contaminated debris at the site. The Cap and Cover Plan they
agreed upon allows for the re-use of the material on-site under future
parking areas in the southeast corner of the site. The development and
approval of the plan is a first for the state.

Angier-Driver Streetscape Project Gets Underway

Work on the Angier-Driver Streetscape project is officially underway. A
groundbreaking ceremony was held at Angier Avenue Baptist Church on May
18. The ceremony marked the beginning of the project, which is expected
to promote economic revitalization and enhance the visual appeal of the
Angier-Driver commercial corridor. Check out highlights from the
ceremony and more details on the $4.8 million project.

New Round of Street Repairs Set to Begin

Some of Durham's streets that are currently in the worst condition will
soon get some much-needed attention. The City Council approved a $1.4
million contract for street repairs and repaving throughout the city.
All of the streets included in the contract would currently be listed as
being in very poor or poor condition under the latest pavement condition
survey.
