New "City Hall This Week" Begins June 28
Passenger Information Signs Coming Soon; Celebrate July Fourth Durham-Style

DTV8's "City Hall This Week" will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m. Hosted by Senior Public Affairs Specialist Amy Blalock, this show will feature the following highlights and other topics of interest. You can also watch this new episode on demand at http://www.YouTube.com/CityofDurhamNC.

Passenger Information Signs to Be Installed at Select Bus Stops
Passengers who use Durham's public transportation system will soon have a more accurate way of receiving real-time bus location, arrival, and departure information. The City Council approved a $202,000 contract to purchase and install up to nine solar-powered outdoor passenger information signs. These signs will be installed at key bus stop locations throughout the city. Senior Transportation Planner Pierre Owusu explains what information the signs will include and why they are needed.

Refurbishment of DATA Buses to Extend Useful Life
Some of the City's buses are getting a tune-up that's expected to extend their useful life. The City Council approved spending $306,000 to refurbish 22 of the 2003 model DATA buses. These buses are nearing the end of their useful life of 12 years and 500,000 miles. Most of the buses have been repowered with new engines in the past two years, and the refurbishment is expected to extend their useful life by three-to-five years.

Sale of Southside Lots Approved to Project's Primary Homebuilders
The sale of 48 lots in the Southside neighborhood to the project's primary two homebuilders has been approved. The lots are mainly located on Hillside Avenue, South Street, and Scout Drive. Each will be sold to the homebuilders at the appraised value with payment deferred until closing when the completed home is sold to a homebuyer. Each homebuilder will initially be sold two lots for the construction of two homes each. The homebuilders may then request and be sold additional lots based upon pre-sales.

City of Durham Plans Annual July Fourth Celebration
The City and the Durham Bulls are teaming up once again for a spectacular July Fourth celebration.
