New “City Hall This Week” Begins July 19

DTV8’s “City Hall This Week” will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m. Hosted by Senior Public Affairs Specialist Amy Blalock, this show will feature the following highlights and other topics of interest. You can also watch this new episode on demand at http://www.YouTube.com/CityofDurhamNC.

City Leaders Address Recent Spike in Violent Crime
Durham’s elected leaders and law enforcement officials are calling on residents to help address a spike in violent crime within the past six months. Mayor William V. “Bill” Bell and Police Chief Jose Lopez Sr. say there has been a rise in violent crime-related deaths during the first six months of 2013. Find out what they say residents can do to help prevent these crimes, as well as address them when they do happen.

Durham Finds Valuable Piece of City Government History
A valuable piece of Durham’s history has been found. The Finance Department recently discovered the City’s oldest audit report from 1922. Deputy Finance Director Keith Herrmann explains what the document says about the City’s past.

New Solid Waste Fee Goes into Effect
A new solid waste fee is now in place for the City residents. A $1.80 monthly solid waste collection fee went into effect on July 1. It will go toward paying for capital needs. The first payment amount will be included in residents’ August water bills.

City Releases Results of 2012 Annual Water Quality Report
Durham’s 2012 annual water quality report, called “The Value of Every Drop,” is now available on the City’s website. The report is required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and shows that Durham had no violations of any water quality standards last year. Residents can have a copy of the report mailed to them by contacting the Water Management Department at (919) 560-4381.
