Durham Coordinating Emergency Solutions Grant Regional Application
August 7th Deadline to Submit Local Project Application;
July 25th Technical Assistance Webinar Available for Durham Nonprofits

DURHAM, N.C. - Nonprofits serving homeless people in Durham County are invited to apply for Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) now available from the State of North Carolina.

The State released the 2013 ESG application materials on July 16. As in 2012, the State is requiring a joint "regional" application from Durham, and the City of Durham's Community Development Department has been designated to develop the joint application as Durham's ESG lead agency.

The purpose of the ESG program is to provide assistance to rapidly re-house persons who are currently homeless, to provide homeless prevention assistance to households who are at risk of becoming homeless, to assist in meeting the costs of emergency shelters, and to restrict the increase of homelessness through the provision of preventive programs and activities.

Durham is eligible to receive $130,935 in State ESG funds, including $78,561 for emergency response activities and $52,374 for housing stabilization activities.

Project applicants for these funds must be units of local government or 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations. All project applications for the use of State ESG funds in Durham County must be submitted to the City's Community Development Department, 807 E. Main Street, Building 2, Suite 200, Durham, N.C. 27701 by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013.

The application information packet and project application materials are available at http://durhamnc.gov/ich/cb/cdd/Pages/funding-docs.aspx. Three hard copies of the project application, including all required attachments, project budget form and project match form, should be submitted in one three-ring binder. A compact disc with electronic files of all application materials, including attachments, should also be submitted.

Interested applicants are encouraged to participate in a free webinar hosted by the N.C. Department of Health & Human Services, which will offer technical assistance and answer questions. The webinar will be held on Tuesday, July 25 from 10 a.m. to noon. Contact Michael Leach by email at Michael.Leach at dhhs.nc.gov<mailto:Michael.Leach at dhhs.nc.gov> or call (919) 855-4991 for instructions on how to connect to the webinar.

Durham's regional application and the projects recommended for funding will reflect, in the judgment of the Homeless Services Advisory Committee, priorities outlined in Durham's 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness, HEARTH Act performance measures, the Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness, and Durham's homeless needs.

For more information regarding Durham's regional application, contact Project Manager Lloyd Schmeidler with the City's Community Development Department at (919) 560-4570 ext. 22267 or by email at Lloyd.Schmeidler at DurhamNC.gov<mailto:Lloyd.Schmeidler at DurhamNC.gov>.
