Infrastructure Improvements Carry Higher Price Tag for Old North Durham Park
The infrastructure improvements in Old North Durham Park are moving forward, but they'll end up costing more and taking longer than initially expected. The park is located on West Geer Street and needed a number of improvements to address stormwater and drainage problems. Civil Engineer Dana Hornkohl explains why the improvements are taking longer than expected and will carry a higher price tag.

Final Phase of American Tobacco Trail Costs City More Than Expected
The heavy rains Durham has experienced recently are taking their toll on the final phase of the American Tobacco Trail. The rain delays mean more time for the contractor overseeing the project, which in turn will cost an additional $185,000. The project, which includes a pedestrian bridge over I-40, was supposed to be completed in July, but is now expected to be finished in September.

City and Duke University to Continue Bull City Connector Partnership
The City and Duke University will continue their partnership to offer the Bull City Connector as a form of fare-free transportation. The service provides a link between employment, education, entertainment, and residential activities along the corridor between Duke University and Golden Belt. This includes the Ninth Street area and Downtown. The City and the university have reached a new one-year agreement that has the university paying $350,000 and the City paying $800,000 toward operational costs for the service.

Durham Police Department Welcomes New Officers
The Durham Police Department is welcoming the addition of 10 new officers. A graduation ceremony for the Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy #37 was held on July 23. The academy included 26 weeks of classes, which will be followed by additional training while on patrol. The new officers will now be assigned to a police training officer for approximately six months.
