The City is making progress on several important stream restoration projects located throughout Durham. The City Council received an update on the projects during its August 22 work session. Two of the projects have been completed and the other three will be transferred to the City for maintenance within the next four years. Water Quality Analyst Lance Fontaine, PhD explains where the projects are located and why they are beneficial to the City.

An improvement project at Raleigh-Durham International's Terminal One is getting some financial support from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The City has signed off on accepting a $3.2 million grant from the FAA for the improvements to the Terminal One aircraft apron. The project coincides with renovations already being made to the terminal building. The work covered by the grant includes new drainage, concrete pavement, and pavement markings.

Residents of Durham will soon benefit from two significant grants recently awarded to Durham Parks and Recreation. The Carolina Panthers Charities awarded a $3,000 grant for the continuation and expansion of a challenger flag football league. The program serves approximately 35 athletes with disabilities. The department also received a $4,000 grant from the National Recreation and Park Association for the implementation of the Arthritis Foundation's Walk with Ease program. This program will take place at the City's recreation centers and will help provide support for residents who need a personal walking regimen for fitness.
