Durham Board of Elections Announces the 2013 Primary Election Voting Schedule

Early Voting Begins September 19thDurham, NC -  September 12, 2013 -  Residents ready to cast their votes in the 2013 Primary Election should mark their calendars for Election Day 2013, scheduled on October 8, 2013. The primary election will include voting for the City of Durham Mayor and Durham City Council Ward 2.
 
On Election Day, all City of Durham precincts will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. precinct 26 located in Rougemont will not be open. Precinct 32 located at Neal Middle School will be open for City of Raleigh voters only. 
 
The Durham County Board of Elections Office (BOE) is preparing for a busy voting period where thousands will cast their votes. The Durham BOE encourages citizens to consider early voting options. Early voting will be available at Board of Elections Office, located at 706 W. Corporation Street, from September 19 through October 5: 
 

September 19-20

9 a.m.   - 5 p.m. 

September 21-22

Closed 

September 23-27

9 a.m.   - 5 p.m. 

September 28

9 a.m.   - 2 p.m. 

September 29

Closed

September 30-October 4

9 a.m.   - 5p.m.  

October 5

9 a.m.   - 1 p.m. 

 
According to the Durham Board of Elections Director residents are encouraged to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming election. "Municipal elections typically have low voter turnout but are just as important as state and federal elections." Same day registration is an option for voters during the early voting period. "It is important that our residents know that same day registration is not allowed at the precincts on Election Day." 
 
Citizens should also note that anyone that is at 17 years old and will be 18 on or before November 5thcan vote in the Primary. 
 
Citizens interested in viewing a sample ballot should visit the Durham County BOE headquarters, or log on to the BOE website at www.dconc.gov/elect
