Durham's Water Video Wins Second Place in National Competition

DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham's Water Management Department and the Office of Public Affairs recently earned second place in the City-County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA) Savvy Awards' TV/Video category for its educational video, "Understanding the Value of Every Drop." The piece details the work the Water Management Department does to provide quality water and sewer services to the Durham community.

Judges for 3CMA, a national communications and marketing organization for local governments, said the video was "nicely done, very professional" and featured "great on-air talent." Water Management staff partnered with the Office of Public Affairs to develop the script and oversee the entire video project, which was produced by Digital P Media.

"We are excited that the video was selected as a winner by this respected national association," said Don Greeley, director of the City's Water Management Department. "This offered an opportunity for our employees to shine in showing off our facilities, while educating the public about the very important work we do every day. Because much of the work we do is out-of-sight, we were encouraged by our City Council to develop a program to explain the costs of providing water and sewer services. Based on public comment and this national award, I believe we hit the mark."

This is the second award this video has received since its debut. In March 2013, the North Carolina City and County Communicators (NC3C) awarded the "Understanding the Value of Every Drop" video with second place at its annual conference. NC3C is a statewide association of local governmental communications professionals.

"Understanding the Value of Every Drop" is available for on-demand viewing at http://durhamnc.gov/ich/op/dwm/Pages/Home.aspx and on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxxLnrfOO0U&list=TL2Efnc60IVOA. For more information about 3CMA, visit http://www.3cma.org<http://www.3cma.org/>.
