Durham County Releases Citizen Survey Results Regarding Next County Manager 
  Durham, NC- October 1, 2013- We asked and you answered! The County asked its citizens to assist with the County Manager recruitment process by ranking key competencies and weighing in on skills and abilities that someone in this position will need to be successful. Over 100 Durham citizens responded. Following is a summary of your responses. Thank you for your input. 
 
We asked you to rank these key competencies in order of importance, with 1 being regarded as the most important competency and 10 as the least important.   Based on the survey results, you ranked them as follows:
 
1) Integrity
2) Data Driven Decision Making
3) Technological Literacy
4) Strong Fiscal Management
5) Creativity and Innovation
6) Support of Citizen Engagement and Participation 
7) Community focus and involvement. 
8) Strong Consensus Building Ability
9) Functional & Operational Expertise 
10) Vision
 
We also asked you to rank the following skills and abilities as Extremely Important, Important, Somewhat Important, Less Important or Not Important. Here is how you ranked them:

78.9% of citizens responding ranked this as - Extremely Important
(2) How important is the County Manager's ability to provide strong leadership and direction to County staff?
69.3% of citizens responding ranked this as - Extremely Important
(3) How important is the County Manager's ability to manage effectively under extreme stress and when faced with controversial situations?
60.5% of citizens responding ranked this as - Extremely Important
(4) How important is it for the County Manager to support and facilitate staff development?
48.2% of citizens ranked this as - Extremely Important
(5) How important is the County Manager's proven ability to build and maintain strategic relationships?
46.1% of citizens responding ranked this as - Extremely Important
(6) How important is it for the County Manager to show empathy toward staff and citizen concerns? 
46.5 % of citizens responding ranked this as - Important
(7) How important is the County Manager's demonstrated ability to improve efficiencies within county government without sacrificing service?
