Operation Bull's Eye Success; City Celebrates American Tobacco Trail Project

Durham Police Department Releases Report on Operation Bull's Eye
The Durham Police Department's Operation Bull's Eye is continuing to report overwhelming success in its efforts to reduce crime in Northeast Central Durham. A recent report on the sixth year of the program shows that there were 100 violent gun crimes in the initiative's target area in 2012-2013 compared with 184 in 2006-2007. Police Department representatives offer a detailed look at the numbers behind the program's success.

Durham Performing Arts Center Continues its Financial Success
The Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) is reporting another strong financial showing for 2013. The City owns the facility, which is managed by PFM/Nederlander. DPAC generated a net income of a little more than $3.3 million in 2013, with 40 percent, or about $1.3 million, being distributed to the City. The income will be used for debt service, maintenance, building improvements, and other possible revenue shortfalls.

City Council Considers Results and Recommendations of Public Rail Crossing Study
The City Council is now considering the results and recommendations of a traffic separation study conducted to evaluate traffic patterns and road use at 18 public rail crossings in Durham. The goal of the study was to assess existing conditions and to determine what changes are needed to improve safety at the rail crossings. City Celebrates Completion of the American Tobacco Trail into Chatham County
The City of Durham is celebrating a milestone with the completion of the American Tobacco Trail into Chatham County and the near-completion of the pedestrian bridge over I-40. A celebration was held on October 12 to mark the near completion of the $11 million project and recognize the many dedicated volunteers and trail enthusiasts who helped to make this project happen. The new 4.2 mile section extends the trail from its current end point at The Streets at Southpoint all the way to the Chatham County line. The 270-foot-long pedestrian bridge is expected to open in December 2013. Hear what City and state officials had to say about this important project.
