New City Hall This Week Begins November 8
Durham's City Council Includes Familiar and New Faces; Oakwood Avenue Park Receives New Playground

DTV8's City Hall This Week will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m. Hosted by Senior Public Affairs Specialist Amy Blalock, this show will feature the following highlights and other topics of interest. You can also watch this new episode on demand at http://www.YouTube.com/CityofDurhamNC.

2013 City Council Election Results
Durham's City Council will include both familiar and new faces after the November 5th election. William V. "Bill" Bell was elected to serve a seventh term as mayor. Cora Cole-McFadden will continue to represent Ward 1. Eddie Davis will represent Ward 2, and Don Moffitt will continue to represent Ward 3. There are seven members on the City Council.

Funding for Ninth Street Public-Private Redevelopment Agreement Receives Approval
The funding to support the City's contributions to a public-private redevelopment agreement in the Ninth Street area has now received approval from the City Council. Council members approved adding just over $1 million to the Ninth Street Infrastructure Redevelopment Project. The money will be used to fund public infrastructure improvements for lighting; tree maintenance and a conservation easement; and sidewalk and curb re-construction. The improvements will be funded through new tax revenues generated by new development in the area.

Main Street Bridge Replacement Project Is Complete
Drivers who usually travel along Main Street near the Duke Campus are now able to use all of West Main Street once again. The Main Street Bridge replacement project is now complete - meaning the section of West Main Street that runs along Duke's East Campus between Buchanan Boulevard and Swift Avenue is open to traffic as well. The $1.6 million project replaced the 63-year-old bridge over Campus Drive. It was supposed to be finished in August, but the summer's heavy rains delayed construction.

Durham Children Have a New Place to Play
Children in Durham have a new place to play - thanks to the hard work of more than 200 volunteers. Volunteers from the City of Durham, Keep Durham Beautiful, ABC 11 and Disney, Kaboom! and area residents all joined forces on November 2nd to build a new playground at Oakwood Avenue Park. The playground's design is based on drawings by children who participated in a design day event earlier this fall. Volunteers helped to prep the site and equipment on October 31st, and installation was completed in less than eight hours on the build day. The project was made possible by a grant from Kaboom! with support provided by ABC11, Disney, and several local businesses.
