New City Hall This Week Begins November 22
Update on Highway 54/I-40 Corridor Study; Changes Proposed to Roadside Solicitation Rules

City Council Receives Update on Highway 54/I-40 Corridor Study
The City and County are continuing to plan for the future of the Highway 54/I-40 Corridor. The City Council received an update on a plan to address some of the corridor's traffic challenges during its November 7 work session. Senior Transportation Planner Andy Henry explains some of the plan's recommendations and why they're needed.

City Administration Considers Changes to Roadside Solicitation Rules
The City Administration is considering whether to propose changes to Durham's rules regarding roadside solicitation. The current ordinance governing roadside solicitation was adopted in December 2012 with Police Department enforcement beginning in February 2013. Since that point, several organizations that serve the City's homeless population expressed concerns that the restrictions of the ordinance unfairly negatively impact some of the homeless populations in Durham. Find out what changes are being considered.

City Offers Employee Training Grants to Durham Businesses
The City's Office of Economic and Workforce Development is accepting applications to the North Carolina Incumbent Workforce Development Program. The program is a competitive, retention-solutions grant that qualifying businesses can use to address employees' skills gaps. Training grant opportunities worth up to $25,000 are available. The next deadline for grant submissions is March 11, 2014.

Holiday Fun Fest to be Held on December 7
The fourth annual Holiday Fun Fest will be held on Saturday, December 7 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. at Durham Central Park. Some of the activities that will be featured at this year's event include the peppermint plunge snow sledding and snow play area; Kandy Kane Kids Corner with an obstacle course, bounce house, toddler play land, trackless train, pony rides and face painting, a chance to meet Santa, and lots of great food and entertainment.
