New City Hall This Week Begins December 20

City Hall This Week will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m. on DTV8 (Time Warner Cable channel 8 or 97-5) as well as on demand at http://www.YouTube.com/CityofDurhamNC. This is the final episode for 2013. Be sure to tune in for the next episode, which is set to debut January 10, 2014.

Third Quarter Crime Report Offers Encouraging News
There's encouraging news to report stemming from the Durham Police Department's Third Quarter Crime Report. Police Chief Jose Lopez Sr. presented the report to the City Council during its December 16 meeting. The numbers show that Part 1 index crime, which is the total of Part 1 violent and property crime, was at a 14-year low for the first nine months of the year. Chief Lopez explains more about what the report means.

City to Hold E-Waste Recycling Event
The City is holding its next E-Waste Recycling event on Saturday, January 11 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Durham County Memorial Stadium. Nearly all electronic devices with a cord will be accepted - with the exception of large appliances or any appliances containing Freon. Police Chief Issues Statement Regarding In-Custody Death of Teenager
Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez Sr. has issued an update regarding the investigation into the death of a teenager while in the custody of a police officer in November. Lopez made the statement during a news conference on December 11. Hear what he had to say about the death of Jesus Huerta.

Durham's Kwanzaa Celebration to Celebrate Family, Community & Culture
Durham's Kwanzaa Celebration will offer residents yet another chance to celebrate family, community and culture. The event will be held on Monday, December 30 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Holton Career and Resource Center. The celebration will include entertainment by local and regional artists, cultural enrichment activities, inspirational speakers, food, kids' activities, a community market, and much more.
