Thank you for the update, Will. Good idea, Bob, asking for a map of the affected parcels. That will be very interesting to see.
Several years ago, when the asphalt industry tried to change Durham's ordinance so they could build asphalt plants closer to homes, we asked for a map of where asphalt plants could go. The map had a big impact on elected officials. It was clear which communities were targeted by the new measure. Facing a losing vote, the asphalt industry pulled their measure. We asked Council to place the measure back on the Agenda and
vote it down. And they did.

Subject: [Durham INC] Tree Coverage Text Amendment
FYI the city council sent the proposed text amendment that reduced tree
coverage on parcels with easements was
back to the Planning Department
for more study. Bob Healy asked to see a map showing all of the affected
parcels, but the developer/Planning Department hadn't done that work, so
they had no idea how much of the county would be affected, despite
recommending the amendment's passage. The revelation that the change
wouldn't affect imperviousness calculations, only tree coverage, also
seemed important.
Many thanks to the City Council!
When/if it comes back, I'll let you know.
Thanks,
Will
