Mayor Calls on City to Address Poverty During State of the City Address
Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell is calling on Durham's business and community leaders as well as residents to help reduce poverty within the city. Durham City and County Launch Tree Keepers Program
The City and County are asking for the public's help in protecting Durham's trees. City/County Sustainability Manager Tobin Freid explains what the program is and why it's needed.

City to Convert 10 Hybrid Electric-Powered Light Transit Vehicles to Gas
Nearly a dozen of the hybrid electric-powered light transit vehicles the City bought in 2011 for use by DATA-ACCESS will now have to be converted to gas-powered vehicles. The change is necessary because of major transmission and engine failures stemming from the failure of the hybrid components of the vehicles. Attempts to resolve the issues have been complicated by the fact that the hybrid manufacturer has filed for bankruptcy. The City will pay $78,000 to address the problems.

The Police Department Welcomes New Graduates Among Its Ranks
There are now new officers among the Police Department's ranks. The department held graduation ceremonies for the Basic Law Enforcement Training Class #38 on February 4. The graduates now move on to a 17-week Police Training Officer Program where they'll be assigned a mentor for training, observation, and testing.
