County Commissioners have been contacted by citizens, by the leadership of
Durham CAN, and perhaps others advocating that they take action(s) that
should facilitate the creation of more affordable housing near existing and
proposed transit stations and neighborhood transit centers.



*Affordable Housing Resolution _ City / County Homeless Service Advisory
Committee*

At its February 3, 2014 work session, the Durham Board of County
Commissioners heard a presentation from Bo Glenn, former Chairman of the
City County Homeless Services Advisory Committee.  The City-County Homeless
Services Advisory Committee voted unanimously to support bringing this
resolution to both the City Council and the County Commission.



Durham's City/County Planning Department presented revisions to the
resolution.

*"On December 19, 2013, the Ad Hoc Affordable Housing Committee (AHAHC)
proposed a resolution supporting measures to provide affordable housing in
future transit areas.  Mayor William bell directed the Durham City-County
Planning Department to review the Resolution.  The Planning Department has
drafted and recommends City Manager Thomas Bonfield refer to Council a
Resolution which addresses the AHAHC's concerns regarding affordable
housing for low-income residents in future transit areas, while recognizing
the additional study and resource identification needed to accomplish the
goal." - DeWarren Langley, Chairman, Citizens Advisory Committee*



*As of the February 3, 2014 Board of County Commissioners worksession, the
CAC did not have an official position on the Resolution nor did they
recommend action on the Resolution.



The BOCC expressed support for the concept of an Affordable Housing
Resolution but wanted to make sure that stakeholders had an opportunity to
comment on the proposal.  The Board asked that stakeholders be sent the
proposed resolutions and be given to the end of February for comment.  This
email is meant to reach out to you as a stakeholder and gather your
feedback.  Attached is each version of the Affordable Housing Resolution.
