New City Hall This Week Begins March 7

City Hall This Week will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m. on DTV8 (Time Warner Cable channel 8 with a cable box, digital converter or channel 97-5 with a QAM tuner) as well as on demand at http://youtu.be/FVqIzmIQ1Yw.

City Council and City Administration Hold Second Budget Retreat
A 1.29-cent increase in the City's property tax rate will be included in the City administration's proposed spending plan for next year when it's presented later this spring. During its budget retreat on February 28, the City Council agreed to let City Manager Tom Bonfield request the increase as part of his proposed budget.

City Council Considering Improvement Recommendations at City-Owned Cemeteries
The City Council is now considering recent recommendations on a number of much-needed improvements at Beechwood and Maplewood Cemeteries. A recent study of the two City-owned cemeteries prioritized suggested improvements with public safety, code compliance, and deferred maintenance being ranked as most important.

Trees Planted Across Durham throughout March
In an effort to improve the Durham community, trees are being planted across the community this month. Trees Across Durham is a partnership dedicated to making Durham a healthier and greener community. One part of the program includes planting trees at all 29 public elementary schools. Find out when the plantings are happening and how to get involved.

Wildlife Viewing Blind Installed at Sandy Creek Park
Visitors to Sandy Creek Park now have a unique way of viewing the birds and wildlife that frequent the area and call it home. A wildlife viewing blind was installed at the park so people can watch wildlife on one of the ponds. The blind was funded as part of a Durham Open Space and Trails grant and was designed and built by a group of volunteers.
