Durham Seeks Volunteers for Friday’s Arbor Day Celebration
Help Needed with Community Tree Planting

What:              City of Durham 2014 Arbor Day Celebration

Who:               City of Durham Urban Forestry Division with the General Services Department, Keep Durham Beautiful, Inc., and Trees Across Durham

When:             Friday, March 21, 2014, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where:            Rockwood Park
                        2310 Whitley Drive
                        Durham, N.C. 27707

Fast Facts:
·         This annual event for Durham’s trees will celebrate 31 years of recognition as a Tree City USA. This event is free and open to the public with activities suitable for all ages, and tools provided for participants. Activities include:

  *   Community tree planting of 31 trees and volunteers are needed to help with this activity.
  *   Tree seedling giveaway, where attendees can choose from nine varieties and receive guidance on tree selection from Durham County master gardeners.
     *   Trees and seedlings are being provided courtesy of the City of Durham Urban Forestry Division and the Durham County Strategic Plan through Trees Across Durham.
  *   Tree pruning and tree climbing demonstrations.
  *   Youth tree climbing experience using climbing gear.
  *   Conduct a “creek investigation” and get information on clean and healthy creeks from Creek Week sponsors.
  *   Participate in a creek and park litter clean-up through a Creek Week event.
