Durham Resumes Routine Water Disinfection
Annual System Flushing Process Ended March 30

DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham's Water Management Department will resume adding ammonia as part of its routine water treatment process on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

>From February 26 through March 30, the City's Water Management Department used only chlorine for disinfection in accordance with annual state and federal water requirements.

Durham has been using chloramination as the disinfection process since January 2002. This process, which uses ammonia and chlorine to disinfect water, helps to reduce the formation of disinfection by-products in the water distribution system.

For information on the disinfection process, contact the City's Water Management Department at (919) 560-4381. Information about the City's water sources, treatment and disinfection process may also be found on the City's website at http://DurhamNC.gov/ich/op/dwm/Pages/Water-Quality-and-Treatment.aspx<http://durhamnc.gov/ich/op/dwm/Pages/Water-Quality-and-Treatment.aspx>.

About the Water Management Department
