Much-Needed Repairs Get Underway for Durham's Fire Station Six
Some much-needed repairs are getting underway for Durham's Fire Station Six. The fire station is located at 3700 Swarthmore Road and serves the Hope Valley area and other surrounding neighborhoods. Deputy Fire Chief Chris Iannuzzi explains what improvements will be made, why they're needed and how fire service in the area will be affected on the upcoming edition of "City Hall This Week."

Police Department launches new CitizenStrong-Durham Initiative
The Durham Police Departmentis launching the new CitizenStrong-Durham initiative to make sure all residents know the important role they play in helping to keep their communities safe. The program highlights simple safety strategies that can significantly impact property crime and community violence. It will do this through safety tips posted on neighborhood listservs, a CitizenStrong billboard and bus ads that will help to drive home the message that everyone can help prevent crime. CitizenStrong-Durham is sponsored by the police department's Project Safe Neighborhoods unit.

City Releases Drinking Water Quality Report
The City's 2013 Water Quality Report is now available online. The report, called "Always Ready," is required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It shows that the City had zero violations of any water quality standards in 2013. The report is available at www.DurhamNC.gov/WaterQualityReport<http://www.DurhamNC.gov/WaterQualityReport>. It can also be mailed upon request.

Durham to Join Sister City for Wreath Laying Ceremony
Residents of Durham will join their counterparts in Durham, England in a wreath laying ceremony at the World War I memorial on August 4. Durham, England is Durham, North Carolina's sister city. August 4 marks the 100th anniversary of the day England officially declared war against the German Empire. In a display of solidarity, residents of this City will lay a wreath on the memorial to the American veterans of World War I. The ceremony is open to the public and will take place at 11:00 a.m. on the front lawn of the Old Durham County Courthouse.
