Durham Performing Arts Center Continues to Set Records
The Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) is continuing to set records. The center's just completed sixth season had 76 sellout performances and 14,081 season seat members for its SunTrust Broadway series. The season featured 179 performances, which drew more than 383,000 guests and 64 concerts, comedy and special events. DPAC begins this season as one of the top Broadway series in the country, with season seat sales now at more than 14,220 and still growing.

Carolina Theatre President's Contract Extended by Five Years
Carolina Theatre's President and Chief Executive Officer will remain in his position for another five years. Bob Nocek's contract has been extended through June 30, 2019. Since Nocek took over management in 2010, the theatre has seen exponential revenue growth and a major expansion of live events and film programming. In 2013, the theatre reported its first profitable year in five years.

Annual Latino Festival to be Held Saturday, September 27
Durham's annual Latino Festival will be held from noon - 5:00 p.m. at Rock Quarry Park on Saturday, September 27. The event shares Latino and Hispanic traditions and folklore with Durham residents through food, music, and arts and crafts. Bull City Play Streets to be Held Saturday, September 6
The next Bull City Play Streets will be held on Saturday, September 6 at 4:00 p.m. at 107 North Driver Street. The free event is open to the public and will offer kids of all ages a supervised place to enjoy sports, games, line dancing, fitness classes, jump roping and much more. Bull City Play Streets is sponsored by the City and County of Durham, along with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.

Mayor Bill Bell Answers Ice Bucket Challenge
Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell answered Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane's ice bucket challenge with the help of third graders at Holt Elementary School on Tuesday, August 26. The challenge is an effort to raise money and awareness for ALS research. See Mayor Bell's response to the challenge on the upcoming edition of "City Hall This Week."
