Early voting begins Thursday at the Board of Elections, and Friday at the other 3 locations (South Regional Library, North Regional Library, and Student Union at NCCU). The Board of Elections has moved to 202 N. Roxboro (more or less across from the main library, look at their webpage for a picture of the building: http://dconc.gov/index.aspx?page=95). If you vote at Board of Elections, park on the street or the lot west of the building (you won't have to pay).
The Board of Elections will be open from 9AM until 6 or 7PM (depending on the day) on weekdays; the libraries and NCCU will be opening at 11 or whenever the library opens. There is also voting on the weekend. See http://dconc.gov/modules/showdocument.aspx?documentid=10143 for the full schedule.
A couple points:The ballot is long and complicated -- there's no more straight party voting, one judicial race has 19 candidates, and there is a proposed constitutional amendment. A vote guide is at: http://www.ncvoterguide.org/ You can get your sample ballot, and check on your registration, at https://www.ncsbe.gov/webapps/voter_search/ (the sample ballot may not be available if you are using some phones tho)You don't need an ID to vote (except in a few cases for newly registered voters), but will be reminded that you will need an ID in 2016.They are really serious about no electronics in the voting area, so bring a paper copy of your choices if you need a cheat sheet.Early voting is a good time to update / correct the name and address under which you are registered, as long as you live in Durham County now and are registered there. If no-one did early voting, we would pretty much have to double the number of polling places, costing the county (that is, us taxpayers) a pile of money, so please don't feel like you are "being a bother" if you vote early. Next Monday and Tuesday will probably be the days with the lightest turn-out.
Please cascade to neighborhood list-serves.
Regards, pat
