City Council Approves Policy Regarding Memorials on City Property
A Citywide policy regarding memorials on City property is now in effect. The City Council approved a resolution supporting the policy during its December 1 meeting. The policy is needed to help the City balance its goal of making sure public safety and the public use of City properties are maintained while respecting the purpose of the memorial as much as possible. Facilities Operations Manager Kevin Lilley with the City's General Services Department explains what guidelines the new policy gives to City staff when addressing concerns about memorials.

Durham Tech to Continue to Provide Environmental Workforce Development Services for the City
Durham Technical Community College will be paid $150,000 to continue to provide environmental workforce development and job training services for the City. The training will help approximately 80 participants from Northeast Central Durham gain the skills and training needed to competitively seek and gain employment in environmental job markets.

City Now Accepting Environmental Job Training Program Applications
Any Durham resident interested in participating in the City's environmental job training program is encouraged to apply by December 15. The 12-week program is free and will teach participants the skills needed to get full-time jobs in the environmental field - including assessment and cleanup. Classes begin on February 2 and will meet on the main campus of Durham Technical Community College.
