When: Saturday, April 11, 8-11am
Where: 2011 Fay Street, Durham, NCTLC is partnering with the City of Durham and Keep Durham Beautiful to provide an inventory of urban trees within Durham, thanks to Keep Durham Beautiful's grant from the Urban and Community Forestry Program of the N.C. Forest Service. The grant calls for volunteers to aid the city in completing a tree inventory along identified utility corridors that have increased levels of service disruption. This inventory will allow the City to prepare a management plan for these areas and provide a foundation for continued tree inventory efforts by the City of Durham. As a designated Tree City USA, Durham is committed to maintaining a healthy and sustainable urban forest.
Interested in helping? TLC is organizing a volunteer corps to carry out the urban tree inventory. Volunteers will be trained to recognize tree condition, in addition to learning tree mensuration techniques, and how to utilize the Mobile 311 application to record data. Due to the nature of the Mobile 311 app, all volunteers will be required to have their own Apple or Android smartphone or tablet. The app license will come at no cost to the volunteer. Training in inventory techniques followed by volunteers completing their section of the inventory at their convenience. If you are interested in volunteering and can commit at least 8 hours (excluding training), please register below! If you have additional questions, do not hesitate to contact TLC's Associate Manager of Stewardship, Matt Rutledge with questions at mrutledge at triangleland.org.
