DPD Headquarters Complex Community Visioning Session Now Playing
Public Comment Period Ends May 1

DURHAM, N.C. - Residents and community stakeholders who were unable to attend last night's Durham Police Headquarters Complex Community Visioning Session can now watch the session on Durham Television Network and YouTube.

The event, hosted by the City of Durham General Services Department, was designed to find out what's important to the community as the department prepares for building and site design of the $62 million project, which will consolidate police functions currently housed in multiple locations as well as provide a secure parking deck.

Discussion included many topics, such as the impact on East Main Street, pedestrian experience, connectivity to downtown, and more. The session is now playing on Durham Television Network (Time Warner Cable channel 8, 97-5 and AT&T U-verse channel 99) and on demand at http://youtu.be/F0L2zSaPrUU. For air times on Durham Television Network, visit www.DTNtv.org<http://www.DTNtv.org>.

Residents who wish to share their thoughts on the site design and building during the public comment period may contact Senior Construction Project Manager Trish Creta with the City's General Services Department at (919) 560-4197, ext. 21258 or by email<mailto:Trish.Creta at DurhamNC.gov>. The public comment period ends on Friday, May 1, 2015.

The new complex, which will be located on a 4.5-acre block on East Main Street, will include all Police and Emergency 911 functions currently housed at the existing police headquarters as well as District 5, Forensics Services Unit, Property and Evidence, Domestic Violence Unit, and the Durham Emergency Communications Center. The project is anticipated to be under construction in early 2016, with completion in late 2017.

The new Durham Police Headquarters Complex is necessary because the current headquarters no longer meets the critical needs of the Durham Police Department or the Durham Emergency Communications Center due to size, condition, configuration and operational needs of the current building.

For more information and updates throughout the course of the project, visit the project website<http://durhamnc.gov/ich/op/gs/Pages/Durham%20Police%20Headquarters%20Complex.aspx> or contact Trish Creta directly at (919) 560-4197, ext. 21258 or by email<mailto:Trish.Creta at DurhamNC.gov>.
